Russian Drama Theatre

|
As an institute, the Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre spans a much greater era than Latvia's recent Communist past. It was established in the city 1n 1883, making it the oldest theatre of its kind anywhere outside Russia.
Since inception back at the end of the 19th century, the theatre has enjoyed a solid international reputation for excellence in drama, and has forged strong partnerships with such organisations as the Edinburgh International Festival.
Modern classics as well as the works of Russian stalwarts such as Chekhov have been adapted and interpreted by the theatre, often taking the form of ambitious projects that span two or more languages. Children's theatre, musicals, and international tours complement the theatre's standard programme of up to seven productions per year. |
