Riga Ghetto website

The Nazis savaged 450 years of Latvian Jewish history and culture during the second world war, but it took until 2010 before a long-awaited exhibition and memorial commemorating the victims of the Holocaust was opened in Riga. Almost 100,000 Jews were killed on Latvian territory during those dark years, including at least 70,000 Latvians and more than 20,000 who had been transported to the Baltic state from other parts of Europe. Key to the Riga Ghetto exhibition are the stands on which are inscribed the names of those tens of thousands of locals who died. It is also a cultural and educational resource centre, with a photo exhibition depicting anti-semitic propaganda, the Holocaust in Latvia, the resistance and the Righteous Among the Nations - those non-Jews who risked their lives in order to protect Jews. Admission is by donation. Entrance from Krasta Iela.
