Museum of Geology

|
This is not really the kind of place into which one can simply wander out of boredom or to shelter from the rain. Pre-booking is a must, and visitors are usually allowed only on weekdays, between 10am and 5pm.
Having said that, a trip here does yield a significant amount of fascinating information - not least because tours are led by acknowledged experts in their fields, who will guide guests through several million years of earth history from a Latvian point of view.
Although the core geographical scope is somewhat limited, a visit to the museum helps to inform and shape a better understanding of the physical structure of Riga, and the influences that the geology beneath the city has had on life above ground.
Look out too for fossils from Latvia and around the world, and artefacts charting the development of geology in the Baltic states. |
