Laima Clock

|
And you thought that the combination of chocolate and clocks was something that only the Swiss had thought up.
The Laima Clock in Riga proves that Latvians have made the same connection, and in doing so they have created a monument that has stood the test of time (ahem) since 1929.
It was originally erected so that the greatest number of Riga's residents would always be able to see the time and make it to their appointments. Nowadays, it is a romantic spot for a meeting (every city has such a landmark), and a massive advertisement for the Laima chocolate brand, which is available throughout the city.
Worth viewing when you make the inevitable trip to the nearby Freedom Monument. |
