Housed in a grand old building to the North of the Old Town, the Latvian National Museum of Art is a treat for all but the most ardent philistine. The sweeping marble staircase and red carpet in the Museum's atrium provide you with the VIP welcome that an art-lover deserves, and the exhibits themselves are very impressive too. Admittedly many of the artists on show here could be accused of being derivative in terms of style but some great technical mastery is on display, and the room dedicated to the Roerich father and son combo is worth the entrance fee alone. These two wanderers went off to India and found enlightenment before developing their distinctive style.
