Using locally-grown, seasonal produce, is de rigeur for restaurateurs these days. It answers the increasing concern from the public keen to 'do their bit' to slow down environmental damage - but let's face it, there's a lot to be said for fresh from the ground produce shipped in within hours of picking, when compared to the stuff that sits in supermarkets for days on end.
So Maja is one of Riga's restaurants that attempts to follow just such a philosophy, even going so far as to name the Latvian parish from which the chicken and lamb on its menu derives.
A great opportunity to sample local dishes and feel exceptionally good about yourself at the same time. |
