Hardly anyone outside Latvia knows that this country has its own distinctive cuisine (and there are still some who would take a guess in the pub quiz that Latvia itself is some kind of coffee). Which is a great shame, because although it's never going to be a world-beater in the kitchen there are some very original and flavoursome dishes coming out of this part of the world. Riga is the heart of it all, and Piejura is one of those places that are determined to show guests just what the city's kitchens have on offer.
Local cheeses, fish courses, soups and meats grace this menu, any and all of which are worth a go - if only because you won't get them anywhere else. |
