If you want to see the blockbuster movies without paying blockbuster prices, historic Kino Daile is the place. Opened in 1936, the Daile was the most contemporary film theatre in Riga at the time. Even when Sovietized after World War II, the Daile kept its name and its look remained relatively unchanged save for a few unsightly busts of the Communist party's least popular. In 1997, the theatre was completely rebuilt and modernized, turning its one screen into two and adding a lobby and bar. Today, the theatre resembles the "dollar cinemas" of America - movies are shown usually a month or two after their release, when they are no longer running at the Coca-Cola Plaza multiplex, but at a very reduced rate.
