All year round, Livu Square is the bustling, beating heart of Riga. At Christmas, the whole area is given over to a festive market selling all manner of traditional gifts and snacks, while in the summer it's a great place to get a cold beer and just laze about in the warmth. But perhaps the best-known feature of the square is the ever-growing art market that has a permanent home there. It's a mix of talented originals, carefully executed prints, portraits, landscapes, and more - which won't set you back a great deal of cash. Not for serious collectors, perhaps (other than those who really do have an eye for the 'next big thing'), but a wonderful spot for browsing and perhaps picking up something that is a unique memory of your visit to the Latvian capital.
