Jana Rozes Gramatnica

Established by and named after a famous Latvian publisher of the early 20th century, the history of the Jana Rozes bookshop is as complicated as Latvia's: Janis Roze himself died in Siberia in 1942, and his company was nationalized until 1988, when it was renamed Janis Roze again. In 1992, the company was denationalized and in the 90s it became one of the largest book and stationery retailers in the country; now there are 10 Jana Rozes bookshops in Riga. As well as carrying books in Latvian, one can find books in English, German, French, Russian and other languages by more than 100 foreign publishers. In addition to the K. Barona location, some locations in or close to the Old Town are: Elizabetes 85a, Basteja 12, Krasta 46, Brivibas 90, and Maskavas 357.

"I've been looking for a comprehensive Latvian-English/English-Latvian dictionary for months here in California. Within 5 minutes of entering this fantastic internet bookshop, I had found and purchased the exact product I'd been searching for so long! Liels paldies!! :))"
