Probably the cheapest bed in the Old Town not in a hostel, the Valnis hotel's great location (close to the Powder Tower) and cheap rooms more than make up for its drab communist (lack of) decor. Each apartment includes a TV and refrigerator, desk, and private bathrooms with bath and shower, as well as towels and sheets unlike some hostels, all in fabulously tacky 70s decor. The downside is a 2 am curfew (which gives you an excuse to leave at 1:50 if you find yourself getting hit on by an obnoxious group of stags or hens) and payment only in cash. But if that wasn't enough, for the full communist experience, head to Austrumu Robeza for a drink and a picture with 'Uncle Joe!'
