Riga's position in the north of Europe can make the winter and even parts of spring and autumn bitingly chilly. Add to that weather that can change five times in a single day, and you've got to be prepared for everything. Of course, we recommend checking the weather forecast beforehand, but just because it says it's going to be rainy and 10 degrees doesn't mean the sun can't come out midday and raise the temperature to a scorching 25 in a matter of minutes. Perhaps the trick to enjoying your time in Riga is to bring plenty of clothing that can be layered, an umbrella, and definitely a scarf, hat, and gloves along with a warm coat if travelling between October and May. Summers in Riga are the most pleasant, with temperatures sometimes reaching the 30s, perfect for a nice swim at the beach!
